FIFTY-FIVE

55 WALLIS ROAD, is one of the last standing, original Victorian warehouse buildings in Hackney Wick, E9

Over the century and more since it was built, circa 1880, it has been witness to a vast array of different activities, from shoe, furniture, and piano makers, textile workshops, and more recently, various artists, including op art painter Bridget Riley, original YBA Gavin Turk, and sibling sculptor duo Jake & Dinos Chapman, and is now home to over 1100sqft of our boutique photographic studio space.

Both the building and the studio have a wealth of interesting original features, which, in addition to the selection of props, alternative backdrops, and other staging options available on site, all comes together to create a truly versatile space.

From a well stocked selection of Colorama backgrounds, to a variety of different floor surfaces, and enough re-paintable studio flats and frames to create a full alternative set-build.

THE STUDIo

Located on the second floor of the building, the studio is warm and characterful, and comes with a range of fixtures and fittings that make it easily adaptable for use, either as a classic studio, or a flexible location setting.

The studio benefits from beautiful natural light all through the day, and also features full black out facilities for more controlled lighting set-ups.

The entrance hall and corridors are softly lit from the North and the East from the break of dawn onwards, and lead through to the main space which features three large South facing windows, and top-down skylights throughout.

Together these combine to illuminate the main space all day long, and make it the ideal location for portraiture and beauty, or fashion shoots, and a great space to work in for either still-life, or food photography that can also make use of the on-site kitchen facilities.

THE ROOFTOP

The Rooftop sits directly above the main studio, with easy access between the two.

It can be booked alongside the studio, in order to utilise both spaces, or with the studio to be used as a base for production, crew, and kit.

With a full, clear, 360° skyline, and some great views of the surrounding area, it’s also frequently blessed with amazing golden hour light from the West at sunset.

ON LOCATION

With the studio positioned in the heart of an ever evolving landscape as the area all around it develops, there are a wealth of great exterior locations all within easy reach, and most just minutes away on foot.

From the greenery and calm natural vistas of Victoria Park and the waterways of the local canal network, to the muted tones and rougher textures of other more industrial backgrounds both old and new; images from the studio pair easily with those of its surroundings.

Alternatively, the studio makes a perfect secure production base for an assignment shot entirely on location.
